How To Bring Wellness Into Your Work Day

The sun shines longer each day, the thermometer is inching a little higher, and hope for flip-flop season is alive — spring is here! After a long winter hunkered down, now is the time to rethink our routines — and a big part is how we spend our days at work  Here are a few tips to reset how you approach the workday to be more productive and even feel refreshed.

Swap your coffee shop pit stop for a smoothie a few days a week.

Instead of grabbing a high-sugar indulgence on your way into the office, give yourself a few extra minutes at home to whip up a filling and nutrient-rich smoothie to drink on your commute. Try re-creating the Kale Crush Smoothie from B. Good; you can do it in less than 5 minutes! According to Linh Aven, their executive chef, “It’s one of [B Good’s] most popular — despite being a green smoothie, it’s very approachable because of the pineapple. It’s nourishing, delicious and, most importantly, easy! It’s perfect for breakfast on-the-go or an afternoon snack.” And even if you don’t do this every day, you’ll notice that by having something nutritious and filling in the morning you’ll snack less and feel more energized at least through lunchtime.

¾ c. ice

Combine all ingredients, blend until smooth.

Mix up where you actually work in your office

We spoke with Joe Chernov, the chief marketing officer at Robin — a company whose “workplace experience software” specializes in moving people throughout their day at work, helping employees book conference rooms, desks and more — about how we can all reset our routines. “Focus areas and brainstorm rooms are just two of the types of spaces that can go a long way in creating an environment that enriches the workday for employees,” he said. Instead of just sitting at your desk all day, take a call in a conference room where you can stand up and walk around during the call, chat with your team members in front of a whiteboard so you can sketch out ideas and, once in a while, walk over to someone in person to ask them a quick question instead of using instant messenger. The more you move around and shake up your day, the faster the day will go by and the better you’ll feel. Get the blood flowing!

Change up your lunch routine

Whether you are in a sad desk lunch rut or you are constantly succumbing to fast food, switching up your go-to lunch spot will brighten your day. If you want to eat out less, try meal-prepping — make several lunches for yourself ahead of time at the beginning of the week. For someone who loves to get out of the office and head down the street with co-workers, even just trying a new spot can liven up the week. The brand-new Bar Mercato, at 54 Devonshire St., offers plenty of interesting sandwiches and salads and some delicious shareable plates that are the perfect excuse for a leisurely team lunch.
